Review: Cows

Cows Cows by Matthew Stokoe
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is the most disgusting, horrible, sickening, filthy, puke-inducing book I have EVER read, well done Matthew Stokoe

I crave books that will have a hard impact on me, either positive or negative, it doesn't matter, I want to FEEL. This was just something else...really, truly, something else.
If you pick this book up expect murder, mutilation, animal abuse, rape, bestiality and absolutely disgusting and descriptive imagery. You won't want to read this whilst eating your lunch.

Our main character, Steven, is a shut in who lives with his mother whom he calls the 'Hagbeast', she is incapable of love and affection and makes Steven's life a living Hell. All he wants is just to be happy, just like people that he sees on the TV. He will do anything to just feel something...like exploring the sickness and depravity of the local slaughterhouse.

I'm still not completely sure what the book's message was but if I wasn't Vegan before reading this I definitely would be now.

Review: Senlin Ascends

Senlin Ascends Senlin Ascends by Josiah Bancroft
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A truly incredible story

I found this gem in my local library. I was just perusing through the shelves when something about this book just stood out to me. I had never heard of it and it was something different to what I would usually read. I'm so glad I took a chance to give it a go.
This is a story about your average, stuffy, yet lovable headteacher called Senlin who loses his new wife on their honeymoon. He suspects she has entered the huge tower of Babel so that is where he will start looking. The tower is made up of numerous 'Ringdoms' each with it's own dangers, perils and wonder. We join Senlin on his ascent through the tower's ringdoms, making friends who are enemies and enemies who are friends. This adventure is nothing like I have ever read before and I will definitely be picking up the next in the series.
